Gemstones aka 'Firing the Facets'
This seminar will focus on choosing the right stones for firing with metal clay by discussing their properties. You will also find out how to look at a stone to see if it is fireable. There will be some notes on how to set several different shapes of the stones into the clay before firing and some general design hints on the artfulness of the stones in your work.

The President of Paragon Industries will go over basic kiln operation, including parts, relays and thermocouple and answer common questions about firing, programming and troubleshooting.
Using copper sheeting, sliver sheeting, metal clay and a variety patinas, torch work, and alternative applications, Mary will apply color to metals. Many samples will be shown and explained, and demonstrations will be given to obtain a variety of colors. Bring paper and pen to take notes and learn a variety of techniques.
Stan and Heather of Art Clay South Africa will show you how to use their exclusively designed molds to make items that are different each time, from quick and easy, to the "how did you make that!" unique pieces.

Use different molds in combinations, as well as stunning spoons in several sizes and shapes. Find out how to use those pesky tiny left-overs to mold "add-ons." You will find you never look at a mold the same way again.
"Successful Teaching Strategies" For both new and experienced teachers who want their classes to be the best - come learn what works and what doesn't work when teaching a class in metal clay. Who you are "being" as a teacher could make a difference to your students' having a good time versus having a great class. In this one-hour lecture, teaching strategies will be explored, including pre- class preparation, location options, fee determination, classroom set-up, pacing, and evaluation.
This lecture introduces ways of photographing your work for marketing, juries or publicity using inexpensive set ups. Tricks for film and digital are addressed, and simplicity is emphasized.
Liver of Sulfur can achieve colors as dark as night or as beautiful as an iridescent rainbow. From subtle gold to magenta to purple and everything in between, LOS can be fun and spontaneous on one hand and unpredictable on the other. Holly will unlock its secrets, discuss recipes for achieving different surface effects, and answer some of the most frequently asked questions.
Susan will show the fine filigree techniques that she has been working on to perfect the art of drawing a controlled line with a syringe. She has developed a technique of using a very fine syringe tip and literally drawing landscapes with the piped silver. The results can be enamelled or backed with polymer clay to give enchanting Art Nouveau effects.
Metal clay Veneer is one of the newest products on the horizon of metal clay. This textured, flexible, nondrying sheet has multiple uses both fired and unfired. The Veneer sheet is the easiest way to apply texture to your metal clay projects, make light-as-feather earrings, or encompass that irregularly shaped stone.

Jay Humphreys will outline her product, the techniques in creating the textured sheets, and their uses.

While it is possible to completely finish the greenware by hand – and it is desirable to know how to do that well, working on the flex shaft is faster and allows for unique opportunities to quickly finish or carve the greenware. You will learn how to best set up the flex shaft, which bits and burs are best to use on the greenware, the techniques needed to finish and carve on the greenware and how to reclaim the scrap created by working on the flex shaft.
Many jewelers believe that soldering is not easy and soldering on metal clay is next to impossible. Key to mastering silver soldering is an understanding of the process. This presentation will demystify the basics of traditional silver soldering as well as address the special issues of soldering on metal clay.
Overlay Paste is a versatile addition to any multimedia construction using metal clay. Through a series of examples and images used to profile methods and applications, we will explore the many worlds of Overlay Paste.

Do some of your metal clay creations beg for some color? This seminar will focus on adding color to metal clay without the high temperatures associated with some other coloring methods. Be it a subtle touch of soft shading, or a dramatic display of bold color, these techniques can help you take your metal clay work to a new level. And all without the heat of a kiln. This means that such things as pearls, paper, and other materials sensitive to heat, can be incorporated into your work without being damaged. You’ll hear about the newest coloring techniques available today, their application process, and what they are best used for. A short demonstration will also be presented.
